Melatonin: Why 0.5 mg Often Beats 10 mg for Sleep

If more isn't better, a megadose habit costs money and buys side effects. Defenders of higher doses also note that several positive trials used 2–10 mg, and some researchers argue older adults — who produce less endogenous melatonin — may tolerate and need more.
